Townsville & Magnetic Island!

Hi everyone!

So we have left Townsville after an overnight stay at Magnetic Island. The last time Trent and I were here (pre kids!) it really wasn't much of a place to be. Townsville has grown so much! Magnetic Island hasn't really changed all that much but I did manage to visit a place there that we hadn't been before - the nurses clinic. Yes, that's right, I, Krista have now managed to get an infection in my foot! Not sure if it has come from all the bites I got on my legs and feet at Arilie Beach (Mozzies Galore!), or if I have got another one that has turned into an infection. I don't seem to have any open skin anywhere so that's what they have put it down to. So, another 10 days of antibiotics for me and if no better I will be seeing Dr's somewhere else. Yesterday I could hardly walk on the foot and felt rather ill to say the least! Today, 24 hours on, I feel better, my foot is a little better and I am able to walk a little better on it! I'll keep you all posted - it looks horrible, all puffed up and red and swollen.

So, we ended up leaving the caravan at the park that we were staying at in Townsville, only $12 to keep it there over night! And, headed over on the passenger ferry to Magnetic Island. We checked in to the All Seasons Magnetic Island Resort. It was just about the only place we could stay for under a few hundred dollars for one night!!! Trent, Pheobe & Maurice all headed straight for the Pool, Felicity and I went for a walk to find a clinic for my foot that I couldn't walk on very well and get some lunch for us all. We went to the bakery for our lunch supplies, got 3 sausage rolls, 4 party pies, 1 pastie, 1 vanilla slice, 2 milk drinks, 1 ginger beer, 1 bottle of water and 2 lts of milk. We managed to get $3.70 change from $50!!!! Crazy ha?!
Anyway, getting over that. We had our lunch once I got it back to the resort. We then went on the bus around to Horseshoe Bay (we were staying at Nelly Bay, for those of you that know the Island, if not look it up and you will see how the Island is made up of little bays). This hasn't changed at all since the last time we were there. Still a nice beach, the Marlin Bar, and a few eateries and cafes etc... We had a walk along the beach, an ice cream and a hot choc over the course of the afternoon. Caught the bus back to our apartment, had another swim in the pool, showers, then up to the resort restaurant for dinner. Had a nice meal and then took the 20 steps back to our room and settled in for the night. Pheobe and Maurice were so excited to be in a big bed each, and I was so excited to be in a nice bed with a good mattress!!!! Flick got the portacot, but she went to sleep in no time, and was the last to wake in the morning! Had breaky at the restaurant, it was included in our price. It was a good spread and when asked if we wanted to eat in or our, we said out because we can being warm enough, we ended back inside. When you see the pic's I will explain why. We then had to go to the clinic so that the nurses could check on my foot and give me my full supply of antibiotics, then back to catch the ferry back to Townsville.
Once back there we went back and got the van and headed north. All the kids had a nap in the car and it was cheese and biscuits in the car on the way for our lunch. Came across a couple of sets of big road works, so I had time to get into the van and get lunch and drinks for everyone! Once we got up far enough, we really started to notice still, the devastation of cyclone Yasi. The bush was all still messed up, you could see the trees all starting to re grow again with small bushes at the ends of their branches. As we got closer to civilisation you could see houses without roofs, sheds without roofs and windows and there was even houses that have been completely re-built! We had a quick stop at Cardwell, thinking that we might have stayed there the night, but after a closer look at the town that had been ruined by the cyclone, there really wasn't much keeping us there and it was only an hour up the road before we found a nice park at Mission Beach. This is where I am blogging from now. It's actually South Mission Beach, another Big4 Park. Once we arrived and set up, it was over to the pool for a swim! Had some time there on the water slides and a play with some other kids and spoke to another family from Vic who have been travelling for a while now too. Pasta for dinner, showers and a bath in the sink for Flick! Bed time and here I am filling you all in of the past few days events.

A view of Magnetic Island from a beach in Townsville.

The Rock Pool on the Strand at Townsville. We had lunch at the cafe that you can see in the background. Lots of people swim here, the apparently each week drain it and scrub it clean! It is very inviting to say the least!

The flying fox at one of the playgrounds along the strand in Townsville. Pheobe is giving it a go!

Maurice also giving the flying fox a go!

This is Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island.

Pheobe and Maurice on a park bench at horseshoe bay.

The Pool at the All Seasons Magnetic Island Resort!

Out at dinner, Trent and Maurice.

Krista & Pheobe at dinner!

Felicity at dinner! How cute is her smile!

This was what we call a 'small bush chook'. He was happy to be fed by Felicity when we were having dinner. Trent and I wondered if Kylie might like this little guy in her garden?!!!!

So, this is breaky time! The birds basically ate it for you! I had to take Maurice & Felicity inside almost 3 minutes into starting our breaky.

It was after this photo that Trent and Pheobe came to join us inside too!!!

So, as you can see, we have had some fun these past few days! Now looking forward to seeing the Mission beach area. We have 3 nights at this park, so we will be spending Father's day here too. Just a quick message to say Happy Birthday to Lachie for yesterday, hope you had a nice day.

Take care everyone, missing you all lots.
Love The Guye Gang. xo
