Once I got out and had a look, this is what I found.
This is my initial view!
A closer look!
Inside view!
A disaster zone inside the van. Stuff was all the way to the back of the van! Stuff everywhere!
Another look at the outside! We couldn't believe it.
Then, Trent and I went searching for what might have been the 'Thing' that hit the car and then the van. 2 Couples stopped to ask if we needed help, which was very nice but there was nothing that they could do. We had phone service and were in the middle of nowhere, so it was a matter of moving on to the next town slowly.
Then, on further inspection before we were to move on, and I found this! Can you see the bit of steel sitting near the top of the pillow and on the ledge? THIS was the THING that hit the windscreen of the car before bouncing off and putting a hole in the caravan!
Here it is. We were so lucky that it didn't go through the windscreen when it hit. We are bringing this one home to put up in the 'Pool Room'!!!
Just to give you an idea of the size of the piece of steel. It's very heavy, perhaps 2kg or so.
Here is a pic of the inside of the van now that the steel has been taken away.
So, we took our time and headed for Barcaldine, the next major town. We parked at the information centre and Trent phoned the insurance company. Lucky they are 24hrs, 7 days. Things aren't like that here in outback QLD. Most places are shut here in Barcaldine on a Sunday. Anyway, after waiting on someone to get back to us we were told to find somewhere to stay and wait, most likely tomorrow for more info on what to do. We may have to get the van ourselves to Rockhampton and then it will be towed home or they may tow it from here, not sure. What ever happens, we are all safe and that's what matters most!
Trent's patch up job so we can sleep the night!
These are the things that we took out of the van and off the outside of the van so we could secure it for both sleep and travel.
And there you have it! Caravan Holiday Over!!!! In a split second!Just depending on what tomorrow brings as to whether we will do some more travel or be comming home early.
Have a nice day everyone!
Catch up soon,
Love The Guye Gang! xoxoxoxoxo
